Yemen businessman killed in ambush by armed assailants in Abyan province
A Yemeni businessman was killed in an armed ambush on a coastal road in Abyan province, sparking condemnation from local tribes and calls for security forces to apprehend the perpetrators.
The victim, identified as Ahmed Abdullah Al-Kathiri from Hadramout, was traveling in his vehicle on Friday when armed men attempted to stop him approximately 50 kilometers from Ahwar city toward Shabwa province. When he did not stop, the assailants opened fire, inflicting severe wounds. He was transported to Ahwar Hospital but succumbed to his injuries, and his body was later transferred to his home province.
Local sources indicated that security suspects believed to be hiding in rugged mountainous areas may be involved in the attack, amid recurring highway robbery and extortion incidents targeting travelers in the region.
Tribal leaders and social figures in Ahwar condemned the killing, demanding authorities pursue the perpetrators and provide adequate protection for the strategic coastal route.
