Man killed after Russian artillery strikes Poltava region in Ukraine

A Russian attack on Ukraineโ€™s Poltava community on 17 October killed a man born in 1967 and injured four other people, according to preliminary information from Poltava region police chief Yevhen Rohachov. Residential buildings belonging to local residents were also damaged.

Emergency services, police, explosives technicians, medics, volunteers and municipal workers were deployed to the scene to assist residents and deal with the aftermath of what Ukrainian authorities described as a Russian war crime. Police and SBU investigators, under prosecutorial supervision, are documenting the consequences; the gathered materials are intended to serve as evidence in international courts.

Authorities urged residents not to ignore air-raid alerts and warned against approaching or touching remnants of missiles, unexploded ordnance or drone parts, advising people to move to a safe distance and immediately report suspicious finds to police or the State Emergency Service.
