One person killed in Russian airstrike on Kharkiv residential areas in Ukraine
One person was killed and eight others were injured, including a child, after Russian forces carried out an airstrike on Kharkiv on Sunday, October 11, Ukrainian authorities said. Police and emergency services are working at the scene.
The strike hit a private residential area in the Nemishlyanskyi district of the eastern city. According to the State Emergency Service, a 36-year-old woman was killed, while the injured included a 7-year-old boy.
A residential building was destroyed and nearby homes were damaged. A fire covering about 600 square meters broke out, burning a house, cars and reeds before firefighters responded.
The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutorโs Office said the victims suffered blast injuries, traumatic brain injuries, acoustic barotrauma, cuts from shattered glass and acute stress reactions. Prosecutors said Russian forces dropped two guided aerial bombs on the city.
Emergency crews and psychologists remain at the site to assist residents and document the aftermath. The attack was the latest in a series of Russian strikes on Kharkiv and other Ukrainian cities.
