One fatality in Russia as drone debris strikes St. Petersburg homes
A massive overnight drone attack on St. Petersburg left a woman dead and five others hospitalized, Governor Alexander Beglov reported on Sunday. The assault, described by officials as one of the largest on the region in a year, damaged residential buildings and triggered fires at key industrial sites.
According to the governor's statements, falling debris struck 12 multi-apartment buildings and two private homes across four districts: Nevsky, Krasnoselsky, Krasnogvardeysky, and Moskovsky. Fires also broke out at the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal, the Ruchi oil depot, and a warehouse in the Kolpinsky district. Air defense systems were active throughout the night, and operations at Pulkovo Airport were temporarily restricted for safety.
Russia's Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case into the incident, classifying it as a terrorist act. Emergency services remain on site to fully extinguish the industrial fires and assess structural damage to the residential buildings.
