One dead after cargo ship sinks following Black Sea drone strike off Romania
Romanian maritime authorities launched a large-scale search and rescue operation in the Black Sea on Friday after the vessel "Khoryv" got into difficulty approximately 13 nautical miles off the coast of Constanศa, outside Romania's territorial waters. The Romanian Naval Authority's Maritime Coordination Centre was alerted around 10:00 a.m. The ship's crew consisted of 13 members: 10 Ukrainian citizens and 3 Azerbaijani citizens.
Rescue vessels from the Romanian Agency for the Safety of Life at Sea (ARSVOM) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs were dispatched immediately. Air intervention with a helicopter was not possible due to adverse weather conditions and low visibility. So far, rescue teams have recovered nine people alive and one body from the water.
Search operations are continuing for the three remaining crew members. The Romanian Naval Authority said it would provide further details as the operation progresses.
