Shooting at Río Piedras Nightspot leaves 3 people dead in Puerto Rico
Three people were killed and nine others were wounded early Sunday in a shooting at Zoila Café, a nighttime business in the Río Piedras district of San Juan, Puerto Rico, police said.
According to preliminary information from the Puerto Rico Police, emergency services received a report of gunfire outside the establishment at about 2:59 a.m. Officers who arrived at the scene found three bodies inside the business and eight people with gunshot wounds; later reports raised the number of injured to nine.
The victims had not been publicly identified, and authorities did not immediately release details about the condition of those hospitalized. The wounded were taken to several hospitals in the area. Police said investigators are examining whether the shooting began after an argument inside the establishment. The Homicide Division is leading the investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
No arrests or suspect descriptions were reported in the initial police account. Authorities have not said what type of weapon was used or whether more than one shooter was involved.
