Czech police arrest suspect following murder of missing woman in Velké Poříčí

Czech police have detained a 34-year-old man on suspicion of murder after a missing 61-year-old woman was found dead on the bank of the Metuje River near Velké Poříčí in the Hronov area, the Královéhradecký regional police said.

Police received a report of the woman's disappearance on Thursday afternoon after she failed to return to her home or arrive at work and could not be contacted. A search was launched immediately, and her body was later found without signs of life. An examination of the body established that another person was involved in her death.

Detectives from the regional police headquarters, working with officers from Náchod, tracked down and detained the suspect during the night.

A criminal investigation has been opened on suspicion of particularly serious murder, and standard investigative procedures are ongoing. Police said further information would be released as soon as possible.
