Ex-mayor of Jamundí survives attack that kills his bodyguard in Colombia
Former Jamundí mayor Andrés Felipe Ramírez survived a sicarial attack on Friday, October 16, 2026, in the municipality’s urban center. His assigned security escort was killed after being shot three times while shielding him from the armed assailants.
The attack occurred minutes after Ramírez concluded a political meeting with his ally, Congressman Duvalier Sánchez, who confirmed the escort’s death and condemned the violence. Authorities launched a special containment operation on Jamundí’s access roads to locate the perpetrators, while the Attorney General’s Office assigned an itinerant homicide unit to investigate.
Valle del Cauca leaders have called on the National Protection Unit to reassess security arrangements for politicians and candidates in the region.
