2 killed in shooting near football field in Santiago’s Cerro Navia in Chile
Two men were killed and a teenager wounded in a drive-by shooting near a football field in the Cerro Navia district of Santiago on Friday evening, Chilean authorities said. Investigators are pursuing possible links to gang violence or drug trafficking, but have not confirmed a motive.
The victims were attacked by unidentified gunmen in vehicles near Rodas Street and Niasa Passage. An 18-year-old died at the scene; a 39-year-old man died later in hospital. The wounded teenager underwent surgery and is no longer in critical condition.
Chile’s Investigative Police and the prosecutor’s organized-crime and homicide unit are leading the investigation. Detectives recovered multiple pieces of ballistic evidence and are reviewing vehicle information to identify those responsible.
