11 people killed in alleged CODECO attack in DR Congo’s Ituri province

At least 11 civilians were killed in an overnight attack attributed to fighters from the Cooperative for the Development of Congo (CODECO) in Jissa, Djugu territory, in the northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to Congolese media reports.

The attack occurred during the night of October 12–13 in Ituri province, local outlet Actualite.cd reported. The assailants were also said to have set fire to a health centre during the raid.

CODECO is an armed group active in Ituri, where recurrent attacks on villages and displacement sites have worsened an already severe security and humanitarian crisis. The reported killings came amid heightened tensions in Djugu territory, where thousands of displaced people have fled sites following threats of further attacks.

Authorities had not immediately confirmed the death toll or identified those responsible. The incident underscores the continuing vulnerability of civilians in Ituri, one of the areas most affected by armed-group violence in eastern DR Congo.
